In today’s fast-paced world, stress is an almost inevitable part of life, and managing stress is crucial for maintaining stress and immune system health. While we often associate stress with demanding jobs, financial pressures, or major life changes, some of the most significant stresses we face come from our relationships with others.

Managing Stress can be difficult and when we think about stress and Immune system health, we often associate it with demanding jobs, financial pressures, or major life changes. However, some of the most significant stresses we face involve other people. Whether it’s a challenging relationship with a family member, a demanding boss, or a difficult ex-partner, these emotional stresses can have a profound impact on our health.
While many people believe that physical stresses, like exposure to chemicals or heavy metals, are the most harmful, it is actually the constant, low-grade emotional stresses that can cause the most damage. These stresses linger in the background, often for years, slowly wearing down our body’s ability to recover from stressful events.
The HPA (hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal) axis plays a crucial role in our body’s response to stress. When this system becomes compromised, our immune system also suffers. This can lead to increased sensitivity to foods and environmental substances, a higher susceptibility to infections, and a greater risk of developing immune-related diseases such as psoriasis, Crohn’s disease, and even certain types of cancer.
The accumulation of various stresses tips the balance of our health. Recognizing and managing these stresses, whether they are emotional, mental, or physical, is essential for maintaining a strong immune system and avoiding diseases.
As discussed in my other writings and YouTube videos, continual low-grade stress strains the adrenal glands. When these glands are compromised, our susceptibility to immune problems, particularly inflammatory conditions like heart disease, increases significantly. Read our article on Adrenal Health
Understanding and addressing the factors that impact your immune system is crucial for overall health. Here are the three most important factors:

Your immune system requires a range of nutrients to function optimally. Essential vitamins (A, B6, C, E) and minerals (magnesium, zinc, copper, iodine, iron, selenium) are necessary for peak efficiency. Poor nutrition, whether from a deficient diet or poor nutrient absorption, can significantly increase your risk of infections.

Stress is a universal underlying cause of many infections and inflammations, including psoriasis. Emotional stress (grief, anger, anxiety) and physical stress (injury, toxicity, infection) trigger chemical changes in the body that can weaken the immune system.

Your body constantly deals with potentially toxic and allergenic substances. These can be absorbed in various ways and contribute to the overall burden on your immune system. Implementing a wholesome, nutritious diet is essential for minimizing this load.
