Why Am I Tired All the Time? Understanding and Managing Fatigue

In my naturopathic practice, at least half of all clients mention they suffer from fatigue.

Understanding and managing fatigue is key to improving overall well-being.

Let’s explore the different types of fatigue and how to manage them effectively.

Understanding the Need for Energy

After seeing many patients over the years, I’ve learned that everyone wants more energy! Managing fatigue involves understanding the body’s energy requirements and how different factors influence energy levels.

Managing fatigue requires recognizing the various types of fatigue:

Physiological Fatigue

Pathological Fatigue

Psychological Fatigue

We’ll take a brief look at the various types now.

Physiological Fatigue

Physiological fatigue arises from sports, exercise, or hard work. Managing fatigue of this type involves proper rest and nutrition.

Withania

Withania is slightly sedative and helps those who are “hyped-up,” playing a role in managing fatigue.

 Korean Ginseng

Korean Ginseng is mildly stimulating and good for initial stress stages, aiding in managing fatigue effectively.

Pathological Fatigue

This fatigue type can signal an underlying disorder requiring medical examination. Proper diagnosis and treatment are essential in managing fatigue caused by pathological issues.

Adrenal Function or Thyroid Function?

Consult with a naturopath or a medical doctor experienced in treating fatigue cases. Managing fatigue often involves addressing adrenal or thyroid dysfunction.

Signs of Hypothyroidism

– Fatigue
– Hoarse voice
– Weight gain
– Depression
– Constipation
– Muscle aches
– Dry skin and hair

For thyroid depletion, I recommend iodine, selenium, zinc, copper, vitamins C, E, B12, and the amino acid tyrosine. Tyrosine helps produce nor-adrenaline and build adrenal health. Iron deficiency can also impact thyroid hormone conversion.
