Dietary Supplements

A dietary supplement is a manufactured substance that can be taken as a pill, capsule, tablet, powder, or liquid to enhance your diet.

A quality dietary supplement delivers nutrients that may lack in our food in order to boost the amount of nutrients we consume. Vitamins, minerals, fibre, fatty acids, enzymes, and amino acids are all examples of nutritional supplementation.

Dietary supplements may also include substances such as plant pigments or polyphenols that have not been shown to be necessary to life but have a favourable biological impact on our bodies.

Animals may also provide materials for supplements, such as collagen from chickens or fish. These may be purchased separately or can be blended with nutritious substances.

Like the FDA, the European Commission has also introduced standardised guidelines to assist ensure the safety and proper labelling of food supplements. Approximately 50% of the adult population uses dietary supplements. Among the several forms of nutritional supplements, multivitamins are the most widely utilised. According to the National Institutes of Health, supplements may be of help for people who are nutrient deficient because of their diet.
