Vitamin B5, also known as pantothenic acid, is found naturally in foods, as well as in supplements. It is one of the most important of the B vitamins for energy production.

Pantothenic Acid

Pantothenic acid is synthesised by bacterial flora in the intestines, is a constituent of coenzyme A, plays a key role in the metabolism of carbohydrates, proteins and fats, and is therefore important for the maintenance and repair of all cells and tissue of the body.

Clinical applications

  • Adrenal Support: Adrenal stress, hyper-irritability, adrenal burn-out. For adrenal problems, give with 3000 milligrams of Vitamin C per day.
  • Cardiovascular: Elevates HDL, decreases LDLs and triglycerides, hyperlipidemia
  • Detoxification: Important in the formation of bile salts. B5 is an important component of the phase II detoxification system.
  • Fatigue: muscle weakness, poor stamina.
  • Stress: adrenal burn-out & weakness, long term corticosteroid steroid usage
  • Nervous system: Burning feet
  • Metabolic: Hypoglycemia, poor insulin sensitivity.
  • Gastrointestinal: Poor appetite, poor hydrochloric acid levels.
