Understanding Candida Vaginal Infections

Hi there! Tracee here.  If you’re looking for effective natural treatments for candida vaginal infections you’re at the right place. Candida vaginal infections, commonly known as yeast infections, are annoying and uncomfortable. They occur when the balance of yeast and bacteria in your vagina goes a bit haywire, leading to an overgrowth of Candida.

You may experience itching, irritation, and a thick, white discharge. Not exactly a fun time, right?

Causes of Candida Vaginal Infections

Several things can encourage a Candida overgrowth:

Antibiotic Use: Antibiotics can kill the good bacteria, giving yeast a chance to party.

Hormonal Changes: Pregnancy, birth control pills, and those delightful hormonal swings can affect your vaginal flora. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) provides a great resource on this.

Diabetes: High blood sugar levels can feed the yeast, helping it grow.

Weakened Immune System: If your immune system is down, whether from conditions like HIV/AIDS or certain medications, yeast can take advantage.

Natural Remedies for Yeast Infections

I know many of you prefer natural treatments for yeast infections, and of course I’m with you on that. Here are some effective natural remedies for those annoying yeast infections:

 1. Yogurt and Probiotics

Greek yogurt or plain, unsweetened yogurt contains Lactobacillus acidophillus, a live bacteria that helps restore balance in your vagina.

A 2015 study found that vaginal cream applications of yogurt and honey helped with symptoms of vaginal yeast infections.

Yogurt can be applied directly to the affected area on the vulva or inserted into the vagina with your fingers or a tampon applicator.

Of course, you can also eat the yogurt, incorporating it into your daily diet.

Remember though, avoid the sugary or fruit yogurts here – we’re treating an infection, not having dessert!

 2. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is a fabulous antifungal. Just slather on some organic coconut oil to the infected area a few times a day, and let it work its magic. For more on the benefits of coconut oil, check out this article from Medical News Today.

3. Garlic

Garlic is a potent antifungal, too. Add more garlic to your meals or take garlic supplements. Some brave souls even pop a garlic clove into their vagina overnight for quick relief. Personally, I prefer to eat it in my meals.

 4. Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil also has natural antifungal properties. Just dilute it with a carrier oil like coconut or olive oil and apply it to the affected area. Simple!  WebMD has more on the uses of tea tree oil.

 5. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar can help restore your vagina’s natural pH balance. Add a cup to a warm bath and soak for about 20 minutes.

Or, if you don’t have time for a bath.  Take a small bowl of warm water and add a good splash of vinegar into it.  Stand in the bath tub and splash the affected area two or three times per day.  I believe you’ll find the relief that this application brings you makes the application time well worth it.  Remember to pat dry with a clean towel or better still air dry and then fresh cotton underwear. Nice!

Prevention Tips

Preventing Candida vaginal infections is key to staying comfortable and healthy. Here are a few tips:

Wear Breathable Underwear: Stick to cotton undies and avoid tight clothes. Let your bits breathe! We can’t stress this one enough.

Maintain Good Hygiene: Keep things clean and dry down there.

Avoid Scented Products: Scented tampons, pads, and soaps can mess with your natural balance.

Healthy Diet: Eat a balanced diet full of probiotics, fruits, and veggies. So very important!

Control Blood Sugar Levels: If you have diabetes, managing your blood sugar is crucial.

When to See a Practitioner

Natural remedies are great, but if you’re experiencing:
– Symptoms that hang around for more than a week.

– Frequent yeast infections

it’s time to have a consultation with your naturopath or other primary health care practitioner.
