Healthy Nut Mix

Healthy Nut Mix is what a lot of people are familiar with. Try to stay away from peanuts in commercial "scroggin" or nut & dried fruit blends. It is best to make your own nut mix, that way you will ensure you always get the nuts you like. Avoid roasted, and only buy small amount of nuts.

Healthy Nut Mix is what a lot of people are familiar with. Try to stay away from peanuts in commercial “scroggin” or nut & dried fruit blends. It is best to make your own nut mix, that way you will ensure you always get the nuts you like. Avoid roasted, and only buy small amount of nuts.

I have found many nuts to be rancid when I go shopping, and experience will soon tell you what is acceptable and what is clearly not. The more fresh nuts you eat, the more fussy you will become, I guarantee it. You will soon learn fresh from stale.

I prefer almonds, Brazil nuts, walnuts, hazelnuts, and a small amount of pumpkin and sunflower seeds, these are your best choices. This easy to prepare nut mix is a great energy snack when on the run or for school lunches. I carry a small amount in my briefcase on my travels, along with my water container.

  • 2 cup almonds
  • 1/2 cup walnuts or pecan nuts
  • 1/2 cup currants
  • A few cashews (buy organic)
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin seeds
  • 1/4 cup sunflower seeds
  • 1 cup sun dried (not sulphur dried) dried apricots. Be sure to get naturally dried, if you read sulphur dried on the pack put them back. There are health risks associated with sulphur dried fruits.

Cut apricots in half and combine all ingredients.  Store in a airtight container, a stainless steel container is best.
