All Too Many People Who Drink Alcohol Have Candida
I just attended a medical conference today and was very excited to learn that there was going to be a doctor with an impressive reputation speaking on probiotics, digestive system problems and the complications many patients face with indiscriminate antibiotic prescribing. But you know what amazed me the most? That nearly all the doctors in attendance were drinking wine.
It is absolutely incredible that countless blog sites, e-books, e-newsletters and many other sources of health and medical information I’ve read that discuss antibiotics, probiotics, candida yeast infections, and many different kinds of digestive system problems almost completely overlook one of the biggest causes of on-going candida yeast infections – a beverage that is in fact one our most widely accepted drugs, you guessed it, alcohol. Now that I happen to have your full and undivided attention, listen up if you have a digestive problem or any kind of candida yeast infection whether it be ringworm, vaginal yeast infection, jock itch, or any one of a hundred other different manifestations of candida, especially if you drink any form of alcohol on a regular basis. Are you one of those patients I’ve seen who finds it ‘impossible’ to stay away from alcohol? And yes, I’m talking about wine, beer or any kind of spirits. Do you have ANY kind of recurrent or chronic health problem and can’t seem to get a handle on your complaints? Do you regularly visit a health care professional or take one or several natural or pharmaceutical drugs for one or more health complaints and continue to drink alcohol on a regular basis? There is an old saying in natural medicine that goes something like “If you don’t have time to create wellness in your life right now, then you will have plenty of time to enjoy the sickness you created in the years ahead”.

Drinking regularly and continuing to moan to others about your health to me is like saying you have a money problem yet you keep taking on more and more credit with the bank or are happy to continue with your reckless spending or gambling habit. Yet you continue to drink and stay unwell and yet complain that you just can’t seem to get well. You see, the cause may well be right under your nose in the form of a glass but you are either in denial or you just can’t be bothered to say ‘no’. Lots of people seem to get caught up in that river they call “De-Nile” because their friends or relations drink and keep pulling them back mid-stream.
When it comes to the girls it may be that we are talking about the regular consumption of chocolate or wine and with the boys it may well be beer or a savory or sweet snack. I really can’t think of any food or beverage that is more destructive to the digestive system than alcohol, and it seems to me that the more resistant the patient is in wanting to give up all alcohol entirely (and I absolutely mean 100%) for at least 4 months to allow the digestive system to recover, the more likely it will be that alcohol is a major causative factor, and is continuing to underpin their yeast condition.
All too many patients I have seen over the years who present with candida appear to complain of brain fog, mood swings, depression, varying levels of anxiety or irritability. Many of these complaints seem to coincide with their leaky gut that was brought about through the regular consumption of alcohol, and those that drink regularly are also more likely to be complacent about exercise and eating a healthy diet. I’ve been there and done it myself and can speak from experience first hand. Let’s face it, do you feel like exercise after three glasses of Sauvignon blanc? Many health conditions appear to go hand in hand with chronic yeast infection sufferers, especially if regular alcohol intake is apparent.
How Much Alcohol Is Too Much?
When you have a yeast infection I believe that even one glass a week is simply too much. That’s right, even the smallest amount can keep the condition going on and on. Are you serious about getting rid of that bloating, gas, constipation, irritable bowel syndrome or any other digestive problem that you may have? Are you serious about getting rid of that jock itch or vaginal yeast infection that has been plaguing your for a long time, maybe years? Serious is what you tend to become after a visit to the doctor proves to be a diagnosis for a condition you never thought you’d ever be likely to get, because these kinds of diseases only seem to affect “somebody else”.
After reading this page you will KNOW the solution, just stop all alcohol entirely for several months and watch what happens to your bowel function and health in general. You will be stunned and delighted to see the positive change over seven to ten days, I guarantee it. Don’t think for one moment that you can keep on drinking without any consequence, that’s just plain silly because the worst form of delusion is self-delusion.
Once you have finally decided that you are sick and tired of feeling sick and tired, then it’s time to take your health back and say NO to the drink and to stand up to those friends who may try to pull you back into old habits: “What’s wrong with you, why aren’t you drinking? Come and join us for a drink.” Sometimes you have to let your drinking buddies go and do their thing in your quest for great health. I call it ‘re-inventing yourself’. Once you decide on health and understand cause and effect you will be well on your way to establishing great health, the kind of health you have been wanting for years. A life free from insomnia, aches and pains, fatigue, countless digestive and immune problems and many more health complaints associated with regular alcohol consumption.
Congratulations and join the club, once you decide that the drink is affecting you and that you need to cut this junk out of your life for awhile, you are finally in what I call the “wake-up” mode. But remember this, your friends may be still asleep and feel quite disturbed if you try to ‘wake them up’, my advice for what it is worth is to let them sleep. It is important to remember that you can’t change anyone, he or she has to do the him or herself.
By cutting out ALL alcohol for 16 weeks as a minimum, you will not only be decreasing your population of intestinal yeast, you will be increasing your population of beneficial bacteria and are well on your way to improving your health in ways you didn’t think were possible – that itchy groin will go, that itchy skin will clear up, that vaginal discharge will slowly go, and many other signs and symptoms of a candida yeast infection will disappear from your life. Sounds too good to be true? It’s what I base my reputation on, results, so if I just spun you a load of complete nonsense then I’d be an even bigger fool than you if you believe you can drink several times a week and maintain great health. It just ain’t possible.
Are you upset, irritated or even angry by this post? That’s great, then I have achieved my objective and that is to wake you up to the realities of long-term low grade drinking, it is destructive, health-eroding and expensive and you don’t need to fall into the trap that millions around the world have for so long. I’ve converted countless drinkers over the years into a temporary state of non-drinking, and I can tell you this as well, that over half who quit for those 16 weeks in fact quit for a lot longer. Some quit for good, but most have reduced their drinking to only when dining out or special occasions like weddings or special social functions.
A lady who owns a sizable winery close to where I live in New Zealand once consulted me because she had an ongoing problem with vaginal thrush, fatigue, irritability and skin problems. She argued that ‘a few glasses of red wine was good for the health’, after all her doctor told her so and that she didn’t believe that cutting out alcohol for 16 weeks would make any difference at all when it came to her health problems. I told here that I’d gladly refund her consultation fee in full if this was the case, but she had to stop all alcohol entirely for four months first. What happened was interesting, she not only stopped drinking for four months, she quit drinking altogether because her yeast infection cleared within 6 weeks. The last time I saw her she told me that she would have never believed it to be possible that stopping a few glasses of red a day could make such a difference. She also told me that I must never tell anyone that she doesn’t drink because it would be bad for her business!
Do I drink you ask? I used to but stopped sometime ago because I wanted to feel great and I’ve never looked back. I still partake but only on very special occasions. The result? I not only lost about ten pounds in weight, my digestive system has never been better. Should you try this too? If you do cut out alcohol you will wonder why you didn’t see the light years ago.
